Campervan Rental in Barcelona – Your Complete Guide

Hi there, I am Nicolas 👋

If you have landed here, chances are you’re planning to come to Barcelona and mixing it with a roadtrip in the beautiful region of Catalunya. How about making it that extra special with the most iconic campervan: the VW T2 Kombi campervan.

This guide is for you. It is free :) I will improve it bit by bit, adding to it as experience increases. Where you can go, what to expect, how our vans work, what they cost, and little details that make a difference on the road.

I am Nicolas and I run Advantura — a tiny business renting out 3 classic VW T2 campervans in Barcelona. I do this because I love it. I maintain the vans in great condition thanks to a local Volkswagen garage specialized in classics called campercar , and every booking helps keep financing the improvments. So, let’s get into it.

Why rent a campervan in Barcelona?

Barcelona is the perfect launch pad for a road trip (and a magnificent city I live in for 14 years) You’re only a couple of hours from:

  • 🌊 Wild beaches on the Costa Brava

  • 🏔️ Quiet mountain roads in the Pyrenees and national Parks (Monserrat)

  • 🌲 Medieval villages (Rupit, Besalu, Pals) ,vineyards, volcanoes, waterfall, crazy hikes (Congost de Montrebei)

With a campervan, you don’t need a plan. You just need a direction. Drive until something catches your eye, stop, stay the night, and roll on when you’re ready. That is how you find cool spots.

It’s not about ticking off tourist sites all over spain. It’s about slowing down, making your own route, and having the freedom to follow a good sunset. I have drawn a few route ideas here.

What makes Advantura and adventure

We rent classic VW T2 campervans — the iconic ones from the 70s.

These aren’t modern white boxes with a built-in TV. They’re slow, simple, soulful machines. They turn heads. People smile at you.

Each van is:

  • Fully restored mechanically

  • Manual transmission (4-speed)

  • Equipped with a pop-top roof

  • Sleeps 2 adults (and maybe a small kid)

  • Has a small kitchen setup (gas stove, utensils, water tank, fridge or cooler)

I’ve done a lot of work to make sure they run reliably — brakes, engine, wiring, suspension — but I’ve kept the original character intact. You’ll hear and feel the engine. It’s part of the joy.

What’s included in the rental?

I don’t believe in charging extra for basic stuff. You’ll get:

✅ Fully equipped campervan

✅ Bedding & pillows

✅ Cooking gear (pots, pans, gas, utensils)

✅ An external shower

✅ Water tank & cleaning stuff

✅ Insurance

✅ 24/7 roadside assistance

✅ My full support — before, during, and after your trip

All you need is a license, some snacks, and a sense of adventure.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary depending on the season, but generally It’s:

€99–€119 per day

Here is the price page.

There’s a 2-night minimum. In high season (June–September), I recommend booking early. They get quite popular and I don’t have a big fleet.

There’s a security deposit, the amount depends on the insurance you take. I trust you to take care of the van like it’s yours. So far, everyone has.

Where do I pick up the van?

Pick-up and drop-off is in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, just outside central Barcelona. Super easy to get to:

  • 🚇 2 mins from metro Collblanc

  • 🚕 20 minutes by taxi from the city center or airport

The vans live in a secure garage where I’ll meet you in person. We'll go through everything together.

Driving in Spain — What to Expect

You don’t need a special license to drive in Spain — your standard license is fine if it’s valid in the EU (or if you have an international permit).

A few things to keep in mind:

  • These are manual vans — if you’ve never driven stick before, this might not be the right trip

  • Speed limits are lower than in some countries, and that’s a good thing (our vans go about 80–90 km/h max)

  • Roads are generally good and well signed

  • Campsites are easy to find and often really scenic

You don’t need to plan every stop. But I’ll share a list of recommended campsites, van-friendly spots, and useful apps before you go.

Where can I sleep?

Legally, as long as nothing is sticking out of the campervan, you can park anywhere like a car. I do not allow people to park in Barcelona streets. Too dangerous. You can also choose proper campsites or private backyards people rent. You can also use camper apps like Park4Night to find lesser-known places.

Common questions

Can I really drive this thing? Yes — as long as you’re confident driving a manual car, you’ll be fine. The van is slower than modern cars, but much simpler. I’ll teach you how it works before you go.

Is it safe and reliable? It is. These vans are old, but I have spent a lot of time and money putting on new parts. You also get 24/7 roadside support in case something goes wrong (which is rare).

What happens if I break down? Call me. I’ll either talk you through it, or send help. I’ve set things up so you’re never stranded.

Do I need to bring anything? Just clothes, food, and your license. Everything else is sorted — from bedding to bottle openers.

Can I take it outside of Spain?Let’s talk. It depends where you want to go. France is usually fine, but it’s best to agree in advance.

Last thing…

I heavily use whatsapp to manage bookings, give availabilities so feel free to contact me there. You have my number on the contact form

See you soon,
